It’s OK to Not Be OK: Somatic Emotional Release Through CranioSacral Therapy

We live in a culture that praises strength, productivity, and positivity—but rarely leaves space for the quieter truth many of us carry:

Sometimes, we’re just not OK.

In my work as a CranioSacral Practitioner, I want you to know that being “not OK” isn’t something to fix. It’s an invitation.

It’s your body’s way of asking to be heard.

This is where Somatic Emotional Release (SER) through CranioSacral Therapy can offer gentle, meaningful support.

What Is Somatic Emotional Release?

Somatic Emotional Release is a therapeutic process that allows the body to release emotions it may have held onto—sometimes for years. These emotions often settle deep in the nervous system and tissues after stressful or traumatic events, even long after the mind has “moved on.”

CranioSacral Therapy is hands-on work that supports the central nervous system. When we incorporate Somatic Emotional Release into CST, it creates space for unresolved emotions to rise to the surface—so they can be gently acknowledged and released.

There’s no force. No pressure. No need to relive past pain.

Why the Body Stores Emotions

Your body is wise. When life feels overwhelming or unsafe, it does what it needs to help you cope—even if that means storing an emotional response for later.

But what’s tucked away doesn’t disappear. Over time, it can show up as:

  • Chronic pain or muscle tension

  • Anxiety, irritability, or emotional numbness

  • Digestive discomfort

  • Difficulty sleeping

  • Fatigue with no clear cause

Your body doesn’t forget.

It simply waits—patiently—for the right moment to let go.

What a Session May Look Like

In a CranioSacral Therapy session that includes Somatic Emotional Release, you remain fully clothed, lying comfortably on the table. I use very gentle touch—about the weight of a nickel—to connect with the rhythms and restrictions in your body.

As your system begins to settle, you might notice:

  • A wave of emotion

  • A memory or image surfacing

  • Spontaneous movement or unwinding

  • Or simply a deep sense of calm or stillness

Everything that arises is welcomed.

Nothing is forced. You remain in control the entire time.

“Not OK” Is Not a Failure—It’s Feedback

When the body expresses emotion—whether it’s tears, shaking, a heavy breath, or even laughter—it’s not a breakdown.

It’s a breakthrough.

It’s your nervous system rebalancing itself—not through thinking, but through feeling.

My role is to hold space for that process. Not to judge. Not to analyze. But to gently support your body as it returns to safety and regulation—at its own pace.

Healing Isn’t Linear

Some sessions feel like rest.

Others feel like release.

Sometimes what surfaces is subtle. Sometimes it’s powerful. All of it is valid.

Healing is not a straight line—and it’s never too late to start listening to what your body has been carrying.

You’re Allowed to Show Up Exactly As You Are

You don’t need to be calm, confident, or “put together” to begin this work.

You just need to show up—and let your body do what it’s been waiting to do all along.

This is the heart of what I offer:

A safe space to not be OK—and to start coming back into balance.
